Amarsundari Ras

PREPARATION

Shudh (purified) Parad 1 Tola and Shudh Gandhak 1 Tola are blended together to form Kajjali. Shunthi 1 Tola, Pippali Phal 1 Tola, Marich Phal(Phal == Fruit) 1 Tola, Amalaki Phal 1 Tola, Haritaki Phal 1 Tola, Bibhitak Phal 1 Tola, Renuka 1 Tola, Pippalimool (Roots of Pippali are known as Pippalimool) 1 Tola, Chitrak Twak or Mul (Twak == Bark, Mul == Root) 1 Tola, Twak 1 Tola, Tamalpatra (Leaves of Twak are known as Tamalpatra) 1 Tola, Naagkeshar 1 Tola, Ela 1 Tola,Akarkarabh 1 Tola, Vidang 1 Tola, Musta (Nagar-Mustak variety) 1 Tola, Shudh Vatsanabh 1 Tola and Loh Bhasma 1 Tola are pounded to form a coarse powder and mixed with the Kajjali. Gud (Jaggery) 40 Tola is heated till it melts and Kajjali mixture is added to it. The mixture is stirred till a uniform blend is achieved. This formulation is called Amarsundari Ras. Amarsundari Ras is then rolled into tablets each measuring 2Gunj (see glossary).

NOTE

  • Kajjali prepared in the above formulation must adhere or comply with the Kajjali preparation description and standards as mentioned in various Ayurveda treatise.(see glossary)

  • Ayurvedsarsangrah has described a modification of Amarsundari Ras by adding Kasturi 3 Masha in the above formulation. Kasturi is added at the end after Kajjali is mixed with other ingredients.

  • Amarsundari Ras is also known as Amarsundari Vati since the Kajjali mixture mixed with Jaggery is rolled into pills (Vati == Pills/ Tablets).
