The Sanskrit term Prahar is a traditional Indian time measuring unit and implies to a part of the day. As per information found in Vedic texts; 8 Prahar constitute from sunrise to sunrise that is one day and night(4 Prahar in the day and 4 Prahar in the night). Hence the duration of 1 Prahar may be approximated as equal to 3 hours. Prahar is also referred to as Yaam in certain Vedic documents.
