The Ayurveda term Churna implies to fine powdered plant/plants used as internal (used as medicine with water or in food) and external(application, snuff) medicine. Desired plant parts are collected fresh and broken into fine pieces. The plant parts are dried in shade and pounded to form a coarse powder. The powder is then filtered through a muslin cloth to obtain a uniform superfine blend. A scan of Ayurveda literature informs about Churna preparation with different particle sizes of plant powder which determine whther the Churna must be used as internal or external medicine. Generally Churna for internal use are advocated to be superfine to facilitate quick absorption. Churna with large particle size are used externally where fine particles are used for application (Skt: Lepa) while large particles are used as scrubs (Skt:Lekhan).
