The identity of Rakt-Sphatik(Rakt==Red coloured) is disputable. Red form of Alum can be tenntatively co-related with Chrome Alum(CrK(SO4)2 12H2O ). However Chrome Alum is a irritant and unfit for human consumption. Also it is proven to be carcinogenic by certain studies. Hence it becomes unlikely that Chrome Alum may be Rakt-Sphatik. Also the natural existence of Chrome Alum in India requires investigation. On the available data following inferences could be made.- Rakt-Sphatik as the name suggests is a red coloured crystal similar to Shwet Sphatik (Potash Alum). Hence it must be blonging to the Alum complex. However the red coloured Alum complex predominantly matches Chrome Alum which is unfit for consumption.
- Rakt-Sphatik may be an entirely different mineral from Alum complex.
