Samudra Lavan implies to unprocessed salt also known as Rock salt or Halite. Halite is the mineral form of sodium chloride, (NaCl)commonly known as rock salt. Halite forms isometric crystals. The mineral is typically colourless to yellow, but may also be light blue, dark blue, and pink. It commonly occurs with other evaporite deposit minerals such as several of the sulfates, halides and borates.

SHODHAN OR AYURVEDA PURIFICATION PROCESS

No specific purification process for Samudra Lavan is found in Ayurveda treatise which may indicate that Samudra Lavan does not require to undergo specific purification process and can be directly used as medicine. However if Samudra Lavan is contaminated with dust or other foreign particles it is advisable to filter them out.
