PREPARATION

Shudh(purified) Mauktik is soaked in fresh lime juice for 24 hours. After 24 hours Mauktik are dried, cleaned and pounded to form coarse-powder. The powder is filtered through a muslin cloth and transferred to a flat surface stone vessel. Mauktik powder is blended with fresh lime juice for one day. The mixture is exposed to moonlight overnight. Next morning the mixture is blended with Gulaab-Jal or Chandanaadi-Ark for 7 continuous days. Every night the mixture is exposed to moonlight. After 7 days Chandraputi Mauktik Bhasma is obtained.

NOTE

  • Since Mauktik is exposed to moonlight it is known as Chandraputi Mauktik (Chandra==Moon). Certain Vaidyas start preparing this formula from the full moon day. The preparation method is same as Mauktik Pishti except for the exposure to moonlight. Chandraputi Mauktik Bhasma is considered more palatable and light on the body then Mauktik Pishti.

  • Mauktik or Pearls are artificial and natural. Artificial pearls are considered ineffective as medicine and hence treatise recomend use of natural pearls to prepare Mauktik Bhasma

  • If Natural Mauktik (pearl) procured from Basara are used to prepare Mauktik Bhasma then the formulation is known as Mauktik Bhasma no.1
