PROCESS

Gomed-mani pieces are heated till they turns red-hot. The red-hot gems are then immediately soaked in Chandanaadi-Ark or Swaras (see glossary) prepared from Amalaki fruits. The process of heating and dipping is carried out 50-100 times or until Gomed-mani pieces acquire a soft texture and finally break into fine fragments to obtain Shudh (purified) Gomed-mani.

  • The term Gomed-mani pieces implies to seperate and entire Gomed-mani or gemstones and not to crushed or fine fragments of an individual Gomed-mani.

  • It is a general rule followed by healers to use fresh mediums for dipping the element to be purified each time the process is repeated even if not mentioned in the reference
