This variety differs from typical variety (Erythrina variegata) in having pure white flowers. This white flowered variety was first recorded from Salsette Island by Narine (Fl. Pl. Wets. India 87, 1894). It is believed to have been discovered near a temple in Chembur (Mumbai, Maharashtra India), near Trombay and later propogated by cuttings in Victoria garden, Mumbai from where it was distributed far and wide , as far as Egypt.
