Plant Description


Rhizomes creeping. Pseudostem erect, 1-2 meter tall. Leaves spirally arranged, oblong or oblanceolate-oblong, acute or acuminate, base rounded. Flowers white, in very dense spikes. Bracts bright-red. Lip sub-orbicular, white with yellow centre, 5 cm or more in diameter, plicate,crisped, connectives of stamens petaloid. Capsule globosely trigonous, red. Seeds black, with white aril. Common herb along forest borders as well- as in open places and among grasses.

Flowering-Fruiting:

August – November.
