ABOUT

The Ayurveda term Parpati implies to a specific (unique) method of preparing medicinal formulations containing Parad(Mercury) and Gandhak (Sulphur) as an integral part. The general process involves cooking Parad and Gandhak mixture (mostly Kajjali or the black sulphide of mercury) with Go-Ghrut (clarified butter from cow) in a particular vessel (most probably iron vessel). The iron vessel is heated on flame. As Go-Ghrut melts due to increasing heat ,the entire contents of the iron vessel are immediately spread over a spread Kadali (Kadali == Musa paradisca (Banana)) leaf (Banana leaf must be placed over a bed prepared by layering cow-dung). Instantly another Kadali leaf is placed over the former leaf and the upper leaf is pressed uniformly in an unidirectional way.(Hands must be moved in a manner mimicking an ironing press.). On cooling the inner contents are procured which is termed as Parpati. Parpati also referes to the nature of end -product which is highly brittle in constitution. (Parpati==brittle).
