Loknath Ras

PREPARATION

Shudh (purified) Parad 2 Tola and Shudh Gandhak 2 Tola are blended together to form Kajjali. The Kajjali-mixture is then carefully filled inside Shudh Kapardik (Pitt-Kapardik or Yellow variety of Kapardik is used) pieces which are then sealed with a paste prepared from Go-Dugdh (Fresh Cow's Milk) and Shudh Tankan. The sealed Kapardik pieces are then transferred to an earthen vessel internally layered with soda-lime. Shudh Shank pieces 8 Tola are added to the Kapardik pieces. The vessel is covered with another earthen vessel. Both the vessels are sealed with clay and given a Gajput (see glossary). On cooling the inner mixture is procured and pounded to form a fine powder. This formulation is called Loknath Ras.

NOTE

  • Certain Vaidyas (Ayurveda Physicians) use Shank Bhasma and Kapardik Bhasma in place of Shudh Shankh and Kapardik in preparation of Loknath Ras.

  • Kajjali prepared in the above formulation must adhere or comply with the Kajjali preparation description and standards as mentioned in various Ayurveda treatise.(see glossary)

  • 1 Tola approx. 11gm
