The botanical identity of the classical Ayurveda plant Chavya is arguable. The plant taxon which are discussed as the probable source are enumerated.

NOTE

  • The taxon which is highly accepted is displayed as SPECIES 1 and the rest follow chronologically.

  • A scan of the documentation available with respect to Local Health Traditions and certain literary works pertaining to different regions of India give some interesting insights. The roots of Marich (Piper nigrum) are also considered as Chavya. Similarly many other plants from Piperaceae family are co-related.
