Rauvolfia serpentina is widely accepted as the source of classical plant Sarpagandha. However certain scholars also discuss the plant Vanda tessellata as Sarpagandha. Both the plant species are also discussed as the possible source of the classical plant Rasna. The botanical identity of Rasna is itself disputed with various plant species like Pluchea lanceolata, Vanda roxburgii etc. being corelated.For conclusions it would be viable to accept Rauvolfia serpentina as Sarpagandha. However any new updates regarding the botanical identity if available would be posted here soon.
