Gajpippali

ABOUT

The identity of Gajpippali is a disputed in Botanical world. Scholars identify the fruits of following listed plant species as Gajpippali. However documentation available with respect to Local Health Traditions and certain literary works pertaining to different regions of India give some interesting insights.

NOTE

  • The mutated fruits of Marich (Piper nigrum) and Pippali (Piper longum)when formed elongated are also considered as Gajpippali.

  • Many scholars consider the fruits of the plant Chavya(Piper chaba) as Gajpippali. However itmaybe interesting to note that Chavya itself is disputed as per its botanical identity.

  • The taxon which is highly accepted is displayed as SPECIES 1 and the rest follow chronologically.
