Dhanyabrakh

TREATISE

GLOSSARY

PROCESS

Shudh (purified) Abrakh pieces are pounded to form a fine coarse powder. Sali (rice variety) is added to Abrakh powder , 1/4th its weight. The Sali-Abrakh mixture is tied in a muslin cloth in form of a poultice and soaked in plain water for 3 days. After 3 days, the poultice is transferred to a clean vessel containing water or Triphala kwaath. The poultice is rubbed vigorously which results in fine Abrakh pieces entering the water/Triphala-kwaath. The water/Triphala-Kwaath is then transferred from the current vessel to another vessel and the current vessel is again filled with water/Triphala-kwaath so that the process can be repeated again. The process is continued till entire poultice gets emptied of its Abrakh content. After this the collected water/Triphala-Kwaath is kept undisturbed for for a specific period which results in the Abrakh-Sali mixture to settle down. The upper clean water/Triphala-Kwaath is removed and the settled Abrakh-Sali mixture is procured. Sali is then filtered from Abrakh and the Abrakh so procured is used to prepare Abrakh Bhasma.

NOTE

  • Dhanyaabrakh forms a integral mid-step process for preparation of Abrakh Bhasma. It is important to note that Dhanyabrakh is not a purification process for Abrakh as Shudh (purified) Abrakh is used to prepare Dhanyaabrakh. However ue to its importance in preparation of Abrakh Bhasma many regard it as a important byprocess for Abrakh preparations.
  • The use of water or Triphala Kwaath as mentioned in the process is subjective and is used as per discretion by various healers.
