Kasturibhairav (Bruhat) Ras

PREPARATION

Tamra Bhasma 1 Tola, Raupya Bhasma 1 Tola, Swarn Bhasma 1 Tola, Mauktik Bhasma 1 Tola, Praval Bhasma 1 Tola, Loh Bhasma 1 Tola, Abrakh Bhasma 1 Tola, Dhayati Pushp (Pushp == Flower) 1 Tola, Kapikachu Beej (Beej == Seed) 1 Tola, Patha 1 Tola, Vidang 1 Tola,Musta (Nagar-Mustak variety) 1 Tola, Shunthi 1 Tola, Usheer 1 Tola, Amalaki Phal (Phal == Fruit) 1 Tola and Shudh Hartaal 1 Tola are mixed together and processed in Ark Patra (Patra == Leaf) Swaras for 2 days till a uniform blend is obtained. Kasturi 1 Tola and Karpoor 1 Tola are then added and the mixture is further processed in Ark Patra Swaras for 1 day. This formulation is called Bruhat-Kasturibhairav Ras. Bruhat-Kasturibhairav Ras on drying is rolled into tablets each measuring 1Gunj (see glossary).

NOTE

  • The above preparation method of Bruhat-Kasturibhairav Ras is also mentioned in the treatise Siddhyogsangrah .

  • Ras is synonym of Parad and any formulation which contains Parad in individual or compound form or as an ingredient of a compound formulation used is given a suffix "RAS". Bruhat-Kasturibhairav does not contain Parad even though it is denoted as Bruhat-Kasturibhairav Ras.

  • Certain Vaidyas (Ayurveda Physicians) prefer to use Mauktik Pishti and Praval Pishti in place of Mauktik Bhasma and Praval Bhasma for preparation of Bruhat-Kasturibhairav Ras.

  • Certain Vaidyas (Ayurveda Physicians) advocate the use of Manikya Ras (See Manikya Ras preparation) in place of Shudh Hartaal for preparation of Bruhat-Kasturibhairav Ras.

  • Abrakh Bhasma Shat(100)-puti must be used in preparation of Bruhat-Kasturibhairav Ras.
