Twak /Darusita/ Tamalpatra

ABOUT

The classical Ayurveda plant Twak is co-related to the genus Cinnamomum botanically. TBhavprakasha has categorized Twak into two variants as per geographical locations; Twak and Darusita. This categorization can be matched with modern day knowledge as cinnamon is procured from 3 different regions; Srilanka, China and India. Cinnamon procured from southern and western India is similar to that procured from Srilanka and can be compared to Darusita (Cinnamomum verum). Cinnamon procured from northern India and China is similar and can be compared to Twak (Cinnamomum cassia).
